Mother Dear

The tiny room was dim and cold, the only source of light was an owl shaped candle which was soon going out. Resting on a giant bed of straw was an emerald green dragon mother, with her blood red son with flame like horns kneeling next to her dying body. Tears began to leak out of his eyes.

Phoenix….” Rasped his mother, breathing in more deeply

He moved his head closer, and looked into her pale rose eyes “Y-yes? Mother…dear…” he managed to choke out.

With one talon she wiped away the tears “Do not cry…my dear son…” she said, her voice fragile and gentle, like feather “Not when it’s my fault….”

“S-s-sorry mother” he apologized, moving closer to his mother.

From pale rose to white did her eyes change “…that’s my boy.....now could you please bring me my purple chest…?”

“Of course…” he slowly got up and walked towards the magic mirror, moved behind it and gently grabbed the little purple box in his mouth, and then walked back to his mother.

She took the box from Phoenix, moved her lips closer to it and whispered something into the lock, then it opened slowly by itself “I was going to save this…but I guess I’ll.....have to give it to you early....” she said, pulling out a long silver chain, with a golden elephant dangling at the end “Made this when you were just a babe.....was going to give it when you became older.....but now seems about right too…” with great effort she sat up, her joints popped and cracked a bit, but managed to place the necklace around his neck, which rested nicely above his black mane.

Gently he held the tiny elephant in his paw, admiring the details “I, don’t know what to say but just, thank you” instantly he hugged his mother, rivers of tears leaking out of his eyes.

Tears soon came out of her eyes “…please…don’t cry….” Then, the beating of her heart soon started to fade.

“Don’t leave….” He whispered.

Time at that moment soon stopped.

                                          Two days later…….

Grey clouds covered the sky, and little droplets of water sprinkled the ever more wet grass. And two dragons, one tall and blood red with flaming horns sat in front of a grave with red roses in his mouth, and head held low while a smaller silver and navy blue colored dragon with a downward shaped tear drop head sat, with white lilies in her mouth. Quietly she cried to herself, wrapping her gigantic lily shaped tail around her talons.

“Why did she have to go? Why Phoenix?” the silver dragon asked, dropping the lilies onto the ground.

He looked at his mother’s grave, then at his little sister, and sighed, placing the roses gently on the grave “I don’t know Dot….I don’t know…” he said, looking at her depressed expression “But” he added “It might have been for the best”

She was horrified “How could mother dying be for the best?!” she yelled, quickly standing up on all four.

He just sat there, turning his head slightly to right “Because now she won’t be in anymore pain” he answered, turning to the grave “And where she’s going, she’ll be more happy” he said, moving towards his sister and wrapped a paw around her, pressing her close to his side.

“But wasn’t she happy here too?” tears stinging her eyes “Doesn’t she love us?”

“Yes, but all creatures big and small have a right to die and be in peace, when it is their time” he told her, in a gentle voice

She turned to him with a blissful smile “You sound just like mother” she told him, slowly shutting her eyes

Phoenix nuzzled her “I know….”

The sky soon cleared up, showing off the bright and beautiful blue sky.

Okay.........This is new.....
